Johnny Spacehair is a story that began life as an email. My friend and I were both bored and started with the dumbest title we could think of.

Then one of us wrote an intro about the character in the title. What might he be doing? Who was he and what did he want?

The other followed up trying to move the story forward. Essentially we were trying to entertain and out-weird one another.

This ground to a halt after a few emails and we had maybe two thousand words of complete gibberish that nonetheless made me laugh. Over the next ten years I would occasionally return to this text and add things, edit it down, or make changes.

In 2020 I dug in determined to make something of this odd little barnacle of a story that had clung to my life for a decade. By New Years 2021 I had a story I thought was very good. At least it made me laugh and I enjoyed reading it from beginning to end.

I tried to find traditional publishing for it but it was a weird story at an eccentric length. 14,000 words is past short story length but not quite up to that of a novella. It got turned down by every outlet I cared to send it to.

I decided to self publish it and now here it is. A story I like and am proud of and hope you will enjoy.
